Know Your Skin Type: Part ONE

Know Your Skin Type: Part ONE

But how do I know my skin type and why does it matter?

From oily to flaky, it may seem obvious but how do we know our actual skin type and What best for it…

There are three specific ways to determine this:

  1. Pore size - large and all over the face vs small and just in the T-zone
  2. Blemish history - when and where have you had blemishes over the years
  3. Wrinkles - do you have premature wrinkles? Around eyes, cheeks, and neck?

And here are some more “real life” ways to figure it out:

  1. Look at your skin throughout the day. From morning to evening, what does your skin do? Are you wiping grease off at noon, or are you dry and irritated?   Does it look shiny or red? Does it feel oily at the end of the day?

If you have a shiny t-zone and dry cheeks it's probably combination skin. So oily and congested skin on the forehead and down the nose and chin.

Skin Flaky and red or itchy?  You are probably dry or sensitive.

Oily skin may feel greasy and look shiny all over the face including the cheeks.

  1. The Wash test: Wait 30 minutes after you wash your face

Tight?

Calm?

Feels or looks oily?

Itchy or red and irritable (I hear this a lot and it should be easily remedied with the proper product)

I will continue in the next post with more specific ways to treat and what products to use for each skin type…. Stay tuned.

PS. Dehydration is a skin condition  (not a skin type),  It is when your skin is lacking water and dry skin is when you lack oil.  You can be oily and dehydrated.  Drink lots of water and eat your veggies.
